Corporate Philanthropy

Aspin Kemp & Associates believes passionately in corporate social responsibility. This is expressed in our Vision Statement - Working independently and collaboratively, AKA will develop, advance and commercialize technologies that make the world safer, the environment cleaner and the lives of people healthier and more fulfilling. We have a moral obligation to give back to the communities in which we live and work, both at home and abroad. By sharing our profits and by volunteering our time, we support the interests of innovative, pro-active organizations striving for positive change.

The folks at AKA opted to support financially and, where possible, with volunteer hours, one local and one international non-profit organization over a two year period. We are proud to lend a hand to Habitat for Humanity Canada, www.habitathrm.com, www.habitatgreybruce.com and Engineers Without Borders Canada.

Current Beneficiaries

Engineers Without Borders strives to drive change in Canada and in developing communities. Here at home, EWB is raising awareness among Canadians about the impact of their daily actions on developing communities. They aim to make Canada a model global citizen in the fight against poverty. Overseas, their volunteers promote human development in some of the world's most impoverished communities. They help build knowledge and capacity among local entrepreneurs and organizations so they can spread innovative and appropriate solutions to the challenges of poverty.

Habitat for Humanity Canada was founded in 1985, consists of over 35,000 volunteers and 72 affiliate organizations from coast to coast, and is a member of Habitat for Humanity International which spans 93 countries, has built over 225,000 homes, and is now building a new home every 21 minutes.  Given the current economic climate, there’s increased need for Habitat’s services.  The financial support that we offer certainly goes a long way but more importantly it is the days that we were able to spend on site in Owen Sound, Halifax and Wiarton, working alongside the future home owners, that truly shows what a difference we can make! Thank you to all that picked up a hammer, sawed wood, carried shingles, and also to those who remained in the office to ensure that AKA undertook business as usual - without the support of everyone, we couldn’t make this happen!

How are we able to do this?

While we rely on our staff to give a little more of themselves, the fact that we are able to support these organizations is due also in no small way to the close relationship and respect we have for our major client Transocean, who has supported AKA through its years of growth.

We are indeed in a fortunate position in that our work schedules allow us to partake in these activities without necessarily impacting on the projects we are involved in. Because key people within Transocean are unable to extricate themselves from their responsibilities as readily, we acknowledge the fact that we undertake these good works on their behalf.
